We use a variety of methods of formal and informal observation and documentation to help us understand the whole child. Anecdotal notes, children’s narratives, digital photos, video and audio tape and children’s work samples all become part of individual electronic and authentic portfolios. The State of California Desired Results Developmental Profile is also used as a guide for our assessment of children’s learning and development.
As we continue to explore the Reggio Emilia approach, we are learning to collaborate and to co-construct documentation panels for display, weekly bulletins to share with families and a monthly newsletter entitled, The Storyteller.
