Observation & Documentation

We use a variety of methods of formal and informal observation and documentation to help us understand the whole child within the context of the group. Anecdotal notes, children’s narratives, digital photos, video and audio clips and children’s work samples all become part of individual electronic and authentic portfolios.

The State of California Desired Results Developmental Profile and the Ages & Stages Questionnaire-3 are also used as resources for our assessment of children’s learning and development.

Observing and documenting is an ongoing process -the core of the pedagogy and the educational work that we follow. Paying attention to the children’s thinking, how they solve problems, makes us build a deep understanding of what their interests are to make proposals that are appealing to them.
